Voith presents digital solution OnView.Energy for the paper industry

Voith introduces OnView.Energy, an innovative digitalization solution for energy monitoring that enables paper manufacturers to visualize, monitor and reduce energy consumption to lower their operating costs while minimizing environmental footprint. As part of the full-line supplier’s Papermaking 4.0 portfolio, OnView.Energy is based on the IIoT platform dataPARC cloud. With this launch, Voith strengthens its position as a supplier of digital solutions in the paper industry.

Andritz starts up world’s largest single mechanical pulping line at Wuzhou Special Paper

International technology group Andritz has successfully started up a new high-capacity chemi-thermomechanical pulping system supplied to Wuzhou Special Paper (Jiangxi) Co. Ltd. in Hukou County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, China. This is the largest fiberline worldwide with only one high-consistency refiner as the heart of the process.

Toscotec to supply new rewinder line to The Navigator Company

Toscotec will supply an Optima 1800 slitter rewinder to the Navigator Company at their Cacia production base in Aveiro, Portugal. The start-up is planned for the second half of 2024. The new rewinder is equipped with tension and nip control for high quality winding, and it will process close to 2,800 mm width parent reels using two unwind stands. Toscotec will also supply the associated roll handling and trim removal system designed to feed the rewinder’s trim paper back to the tissue machine to maximize fiber savings across the entire production line. The service package includes full onsite erection, as well as erection supervision, training, commissioning, and start-up assistance.

Valmet to supply key technology for Shandong Jin Tian He Paper’s board machine in China

Valmet will supply key technology to Shandong Jin Tian He Paper’s board machine PM 13 food grade folding boxboard line in China. The delivery will include headboxes, a former and press section, finishing technologies, automation and services. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2023. The value of the order will not be disclosed, but such an order is typically worth of EUR 20 million to EUR 30 million. The start-up of the folding boxboard machine is scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

Mondi Neusiedler reduces greenhouse gas emissions from its pulp production by over 20%

In April 2023, Mondi announced an investment programme for its uncoated fine paper mill in Lower Austria, Mondi Neusiedler, to increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase operational safety at the mill. “We are happy to confirm that projects totalling €20 million have now been clearly defined and approved with work already in progress. These upgrades will help Mondi Neusiedler to reduce the pulp mill´s greenhouse gas emissions by over 20%, while also reducing NOx emissions by up to 10% and gas consumption by around 25%,” explains Sakari Eloranta, Technical Director Uncoated Fine Paper at Mondi.

Voith and Schumacher Packaging have successfully started up PM 2 in Myszków, Poland. Except for a few existing components, the entire production line was modernized to achieve the highest sustainability and efficiency standards. “We are very satisfied with the rebuild of our PM 2 by Voith. As a leading full-line supplier, Voith was able to reduce many interfaces and thus reduce significant risks during the rebuild,” confirms Björn Schumacher, CEO Schumacher Packaging Group.

Marco Eikelenboom, CEO of Sappi Europe is the incoming Chairperson of Cepi

As of January 2024, Marco Eikelenboom, CEO of Sappi Europe takes over as Chairperson of Cepi from his predecessor Ilkka Hämälä, CEO of Metsä Group. Cepi is an influential trade association in the forest and bio-based industry sector. It is headquartered in Brussels, the capital of the European Union from where Mr. Eikelenboom will carry out his two-year tenure as Cepi’s chairperson.
