Holmen launches new Incada Duo

For more than 25 years, the Incada paperboard family has been trusted by brands and converters alike. It has now been expanded with a laminated folding box board in higher calipers, Incada Duo.

The high-quality Incada paperboard family, designed for versatile and demanding packaging applications, entered the market in October 2001. Made at Holmen's mill in Workington, UK, from fresh fibres of known and traceable origin, Incada is stiff and lightweight, with a high yield, helping reduce both fibre consumption and transportation weight compared to alternatives.

The latest addition to the family, Incada Duo, is a UK-produced and laminated folding box board available in grammages ranging from 430 to 710 gsm, offering exceptional stiffness, thickness and best-in-class print results for high-quality packaging.

A powerful shelf presence

“Incada Duo suits high-end packaging applications where visual impact and material efficiency are essential,” says Edvin Thurfjell, Product Manager at Holmen Board and Paper. “Our laminated construction combines multiple fibre layers to deliver exceptional thickness and a powerful shelf presence.”

All raw materials used in the production of Incada are approved for food contact, ensuring excellent product safety as well as taint and odour neutrality. The outer layers consist of white chemical sulphate pulp with fully coated surfaces that provide outstanding print reproduction and visual appearance.

“Thanks to the well-balanced behaviour of our Incada base board, we can extend the portfolio into higher calipers,” explains Mark Browne, Account Manager UK and Ireland, Holmen Board and Paper. “This is important across many markets, but Incada Duo is particularly well suited to premium beverages, cosmetics, confectionery, gift packs and other luxury consumer goods.”

Driven by increasing demand

The UK packaging market continues to grow, driven by increasing demand for sustainable, recyclable packaging solutions across multiple industries. The country is home to some of the world's most successful premium consumer brands, from Scotch whisky and gin to beauty and personal care products. These sectors compete globally with quality, presentation and brand experience, creating strong demand for paperboard solutions that combine premium appearance, material efficiency and sustainable performance.

Proximity to the market is an important advantage, but sustainability benefits extend beyond shorter transport distances. Produced at Holmen's Workington mill, which has been powered by fossil-free bioenergy since 2013, and laminated within the UK, Incada Duo combines performance with a streamlined and resource-efficient supply chain. This enables brand owners and converters to source a high-caliper paperboard produced close to market while supporting their own sustainability ambitions.
